OxDURO is a self-supported no frills road-gravel ride held on the second Saturday of Oxford Bike Week each year.  It is a gentle gateway into the national XDURO trials.

#OxDURO22 will run on Saturday 11 June 2022:
  • Start: anytime from 8am from the Radcliffe Camera
  • End: late afternoon in Oxford

The ride will be run in XDURO format - 5 timed segments comprised of gravel and road. Lots of time for socialising in the non-timed bits. Rider with the lowest aggregate time over the segments 'wins'*.
*There are no entry fees, no prizes, and there is no support. You are entirely responsible for your own actions, only turn up to ride if you are comfortable with this (see Rules for more details).

The route passes some excellent cycle-friendly cafes/pubs including Pierrepoints Cafe (92km), The Rising Sun (111km), The Barn (our favourite! at the 129km mark) and The Spire & Spoke (136km).

The route crosses over several junctions and has short sections on A-roads so be particularly careful here and ride sensibly (e.g. don't cycle in a group of more than 6 people).  And on bridleway sections, always give priority to walkers and be courteous.  In short, don't be a dick.

Route

Picture
It is likely to follow a similar, if not identical, route as per 2021 which featured 166km and 2,000m of climbing of mixed on and off road loop hopping on/off the Ridgeway.  In 2021 the 5 segments were as follows (please star them in Strava now):
  • OXD-1 - leg stretcher up Boars Hill
  • OXD-2 - Whitehorse Hill TRC stylee
  • OXD-3 - strade bianche ridgeway
  • OXD-4 - versatility - run, TT, DH, climb
  • OXD-5 - one shot up Shotover Hill
The segments have been renamed but otherwise are identical to the 2019 edition, except Segment 4 (OXD-4) which is new. Navigating this OXD-4 segment can be tricky as there are two deviations that are not immediately obvious:
a) turn right at green rectangular sign "permissive bridleway" at point 51.594078, -0.913874 (1.8km into segment); and
b) ~500m from the point above, when in the wood, bear right to go down the rocky singletrack
