GlenDURO is an 160km mixed on and off road loop hopping between the glens surrounding Loch Ness.
The route is made up of sections of the South Loch Ness Trail and lesser known drover roads kindly brought into the 21st century by local estates and windfarm giants. Expect some varied surfaces from smooth asphalt, some techy singletrack and some fast and furious gravel descents…and ascents... We will reach a height of 560m so be prepared for any type of weather. Pack sensibly. This is Scotland after all. #GlenDURO22 will run on Saturday 18 June 2022:
Potential café stops at Beauly, Fort Augustus and Foyers to keep you fuelled as required. You'd ideally ride this on a gravel bike with ~min 35mm tyres or a XC MTB if you're opting for comfort over speed. As a guide, our man on the ground ran Schwalbe 38mm G-One Allround tyres during the recce ride they were spot on. |
The ride will be run in XDURO format - 5 timed segments comprised of gravel and road. Lots of time for socialising in the non-timed bits.
Rider with the lowest aggregate time over the segments 'wins'*. *There are no entry fees, no prizes, and there is no support. You are entirely responsible for your own actions, only turn up to ride if you are comfortable with this (see Rules for more details). Please don't cycle in a group of more than 6 people and always be courteous and give priority to walkers when off-road. In short, don't be a dick. |
