PennDURO (previously XDUROPennines) is a challenging 170km mixed on and off road loop of the Calderdale and Dark Peak areas taking in some of the finest climbs in England.  The route is made up of sections of the Trans Pennine and Pennine Bridleway, two Tour de France climbs and numerous local trails combining to a hearty >3,000m of climbing and enough technical climbing to keep you on your toes.

It is held on the first full weekend in October each year.

#pennduro18 will run on Saturday 6 October 2018:
  • Start: 8am St Georges Square, Huddersfield, HD1 1JB
  • End: late afternoon at the Magic Rock Brewary Tap, Huddersfield, HD1 5EB

The ride will be run in XDURO format - 5 timed segments comprised of gravel and road. Lots of time for socialising in the non-timed bits.
Rider with the lowest aggregate time over the segments 'wins'*.

*There are no entry fees, no prizes, and there is no support.  You are entirely responsible for your own actions, only turn up to ride if you are comfortable with this (see Rules for more details).

What bike shall I ride?
You'd ideally ride this on a gravel/adventure
/cyclocross bike with ~35mm tyres or a XC MTB if you're opting for comfort over speed.

Should I be a dick?
On bridleway sections, always give priority to walkers and be courteous.  In short, don't be a dick.

The 'race' consists of the following segments, please favourite them on Strava (see instructions):
  • XDP-1 - 3.5 mile, 844 feet climb - mixed terrain including road, steep cobbles and reservoir supply road. Extra kudos for riding all three cobbled sections
  • XDP-2 - 4.7 mile, 888 feet up and over road climb of Holme Moss with a tricky off road start that may have you on your feet. Tuck in on the descent to hit 40+ MPH but watch out for sheep!
  • XDP-3 - 1.8 mile 868 feet Alpine style closed road climb up the Chew Valley reservoir road to a dead end finish. Cat 3 climb
  • XDP-4 - 7.9 miles up the longest continuous climb in England and then down to Baitings Dam
  • XDP-5 - 0.7 mile mixed terrain climb to finish off your legs for the next week
UPDATE: At 10pm on 30/9/2018 the route files were updated to v200 (from v100) to get around a couple of towpath closures - please use this v200 route on the day

Download to your GPS prior to the event

Some people are experiencing problems with the annotated version of the route - in which case please use the unannotated version (and you'll have to make a note of the approx start/end km markers in segment descriptions above).
